Jointly Paul and Dean have provided the Training Seminars on the Inspection and Assessment of Dams to dam owners at the request of State Dam Safety Officials in Texas, Georgia, Arkansas, Washington, Wyoming, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Nebraska, Mississippi, New York, Florida, and Hawaii in the last five years.  In addition, Dean and Paul serve as instructors for ASDSO’s Dam Owner Training Program and have provided dam safety training for USFWS, NRCS, and others including private dam owners with large portfolios of dams.  They were responsible for conducting dam safety inspections and performing failure modes analysis for 16 high hazard dams on the Island of Oahu following the Ka Loko Dam failure, and have provided ongoing dam safety training to Hawaii’s state dam owners, regulators, and consulting engineers since 2007.

Dean is a Vice President and Principal Engineer at Gannett Fleming and is responsible for the Geotechnical | Dams | Hydraulics Business Line in the Western US.  He has over twenty five years of engineering experience as a geotechnical and dam safety engineer, working primarily on dams throughout his career.  Dean currently serves as President of the Board for the US Society on Dams and is a Member of the Committee on Dam Safety and Security.  He is also a member of ASDSO and serves on the ASDSO Peer Review Committee.
